Concha Architecture: How Concha's Unique Approach Supercharges Seamless Interchange

Concha Architecture is developed to ensure reliable blockchain solutions and seamless network interchange by leveraging the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK). This is a modular, open-source software toolkit for blockchain developers that supports CDK Rollup and CDK Validium. Rollup mode provides the highest level of security, whereas Validium mode offers the lowest transaction fees.

Concha, however, will only employ one mode and will have to deal with the drawback of the selection. Therefore, Celestia DA is utilized to get around that.

This post ensures readers grasp the full spectrum of how Concha utilizes Polygon CDK and Celestia DA to enable smooth network interaction and delve into the differences between CDK Rollup, CDK Validium, and Concha's approach.

Is Concha a Rollup or Validium?

Describing thoroughly, Concha is an upgraded Validium node.

Both modes use ZK proofs to validate the state of Layer 2 (L2), but in Validium mode, transaction data that would be costly to post to Ethereum is stored cheaply off-chain. The gas cost is the most significant concern when creating an optimum environment for consumer applications. That's why Concha chose Validium over Rollup architecture. It can be simply demonstrated as follows:

CDK Rollup Node = Polygon zkEVM

CDK Validium Node = Polygon zkEVM + DAC

Concha Node = Polygon zkEVM + Celestia Data Availability (DA)

Why Celestia?

Instead of using the off-chain DA in the Validium CDK, Concha decided to use Celestia DA due to security issues regarding Validium. Celestia DA provides ultimate security and transparency with on-chain DA.

Additionally, Celestia's scalability will enable it to handle the massive volume of data produced by user applications. As a result, it solved the problem that all transaction data stored at L1 are limited in data size when the gas limit of L1 is reached.

Key differences

Concha data flow

Celestia DA collaborates with the sequencer to manage the flow of data and state changes.

The graphic below displays a simplified outline of Concha architecture. It demonstrates how Celestia DA and the sequencer fit within the entire data flow.

To summarize the graph, the sequencer organizes user transactions into blocks and batches, computing hash values. It submits data to Celestia DA for security and transparency. Each batch generates a unique Blob ID, which is then transmitted to the Rootstock network for verification.
